The outer coma has a diameter of 7.3'. These 3 images originates from the
same frame. Only the contrast was adjusted in Photoshop. Images with
10 sec exposure time were saturated in the innermost area. This part of the image is enlarged 2x, pixel scale is 1.09"/px. |

This false color image shows the whole dynamic range in one picture (click on it to see the full extent of the image in 2 x enlargement). The streak to the right is not an ion tail but stems from smearing of bright sources during readout. These 3 images originates from the same frame. Only the contrast was adjusted in Photoshop. Images with 10 sec exposure time were saturated in the innermost area. This part of the image is enlarged 2x, pixel scale is 1.09"/px. |

This image gives the
visual impression at the telescope: The comet was estimated at 2.8 mag visually with the naked eye. It seems that the inner
coma is not exactly placed in the middle of the outer shell. |

At this time the comet was hard to measure because of its proximity to 15.4 mag USNO B1.0 star 1380-0122707, but it's around 17 mag. This and the above image are at the same scale and orientation, south is up and east to the right. |
